The Maryland State Board of Nursing is located in Baltimore, MD and is overseen by Executive Director Patricia Noble,MSN, RN and President Nancy Adams, MBA, RN . The board operates under the Maryland Nurse Practice Act. The board ensures that nursing and practice standards are met and those persons that are involved in the practice of nursing are competent and well trained. The state nursing board also offers guidance and assistance in applying for and renewing an RN, LPN or Nurse Practitioners.
The board approves individuals for nursing licensure, registration and certification, approves educational programs and schools for nurses and nursing assistants. In addition, the board administers nursing continuing education to keep the nursing community up to date on new practices.
The Maryland State Board of Nursing is also responsible for investigating complaints concerning a nursing licensee’s compliance with the state laws, and determines and delivers the disciplinary actions in the event that there are proven violations of the Nurse Practice Act. They keep an online complaint database for nurses in the state.

The Maryland State Board of Nursing’s Online Verification system is a free service provided to nurse licensees, employers and the public. Online verification should not be the sole source of verification and the original license, drivers license or social security card should be requested to determine validity.

New nursing candidates in Maryland submit nursing applications that are available from the state board and include nursing licensing for Certified Nursing Assistant, Registered Nurse, Licensed Practical Nurse, Certified Medication Assistant, Advanced Practice (includes Nurse Practitioner, Clinical Nurse Specialist, Nurse Midwife Certification), medication technicians and electrologists. Nursing Programs Approved by Maryland State Board of Nursing
Nursing programs and training schools must be approved by the Maryland State Board. This includes nursing training programs both online and on-campus for practical nursing, nursing assistants, Rn’s and medical assistants.
